Clamp slippage
Question:
I have a stringing machine with the glide bar clamping system, and lockout tensioner. Particularly on the mains, when I release the tensioner after clamping off, the clamp slides back, sometimes as much as an inch or more, but usually varying amounts. It hasn't seemed to affect the end results adversely, but I have wondered about it and I noticed on my old swivel-clamp-style stringer that they twisted and released some tension as well. On my last string job, I put two-sided tape on the glide bars to prevent the movement of the clamps once they were set. In the end, the string job seemed 'rigid' although the tension didn't seem any tighter (using the 'ping' method) than my other racquet done the usual way. What do you think? Is some slippage common? I've heard some people 'sand paper' the glide bars?
