The Physics and Technology of Tennis Learning Center
Welcome to the Interactive Learning Center for the book The Physics and Technology of Tennis
By Howard Brody, Rod Cross and Crawford Lindsey
Each menu item links to programs that will interactively help you understand concepts and formulas presented in the book. For the most part, the concepts will not be re-presented, except in some summary manner. Though there is much to be gained from these programs without reading the book, the full power, benefit, meaning and understanding will only be gained if they are used in conjunction with it.
NOTE: JAVA PROGRAMS MAY REQUIRE MOST RECENT VERSIONS OF BROWSERS TO WORK CORRECTLY
Racquet Power
The Racquet Power programs take you through the factors that determine the speed of the ball leaving your racquet. These programs primarily cover information in Chapters 10-14.
Each program utilizes concepts and behind-the-scenes formulas to allow you to dictate the terms of the impact and to see what the results would be. In other words, what happens to ball speed if I change incoming ball velocity, racquet speed, impact point mass, impact location right and left and up and down, string stiffness, racquet energy and momentum, string tension, etc.
- Ball Speed
- Determining Racquet Power with ACOR
- Effective Racquet Mass at Impact Point: 1
- Effective Racquet Mass at Impact Point: 2
- Racquet Energy into Elastic Energy
- Share of Energy by Strings and Ball
- Velocity of Racquet at Impact Point (Coming soon!)
- Maximum Power Point (Coming soon!)
- Momentum and Ball Velocity (Coming soon!)
- Energy and Ball Velocity (Coming soon!)
- Ultimate Tennis Collision Configurator (Coming soon!)
Customizing Weight, Balance, and Swingweight
These programs focus on concepts from Chapters 3-6 and 16.
